Is Halal killed meat against the principles of animal rights activists?

Question by Jeff R: Is Halal killed meat against the principles of animal rights activists?
It seems a little strange that people get worked up over cruelty to foxes and pet rabbits while our ethnic friends are busy slitting the throats (without first stunning) of various creatures for their meat. If the supporters of animals rights object to the practice of Halal, why don't we ever hear about it? Maybe they are too afraid!
This would equally apply to Kosher meat and any other kind which is killed in this way.
