What breed of chicken would you recommend for me?

I'm thinking of raising some chickens, as pets and for eggs, but am overwhelmed by all the different breed choices. What kind would you recommend based on this criteria?

-Is easy to raise (no special grooming or health issues)
-Is quiet (we have neighbors)
-Is affectionate, calm and friendly
-Is okay with hot and cold weather (we live near Chicago)
-Can be shown in 4-H
